Whites & Utica Pottery Bean Pot.
A beautiful gray and cobalt blue lidded bean pot. “Spirit on 76 Bunker Hill on one side and “Boston Home Of The Bean” on the other. The piece is artfully accentuated with cobalt blue on the lid and handle and beading around the top of the pot and just below. An awesome piece of Whites and Utica in near pristine condition.
Whites and Utica is circa 1834 and the factory was located in Utica NY. Noah White was known for making beautiful stoneware pottery some featuring artful depictions using a cobalt blue process that added additional beauty to the piece. In 1839 Noah bought out Addington Pottery and brought his son Nicholas A. White into the business and in 1843 Noah brought in another son William N. White and two years later both sons were made partners. Whites and Utica also made made many other types of pottery including Edelweiss Beer Pitchers of all shapes and sizes featuring various scenes embossed in cobalt blue, Brandy Jugs with hunting scenes (very rare), large water dispensers with cobalt scenes to mention only a few. Whites and Utica Potter comes in manner of shapes and sizes with most all of the depicting scenes of every day life, flowers, designs and various sayings.
